Final presentation for EXP2

"The connection between psychology and science is also a collision between human and nature."
new hyprothesis for final work

The theme of the model is to show the 'cooperation' of science and psychology.

Based on Freud's theory, human has 3 levels of personalities, Id, Ego and Super-ego. So I designed a standing frame structure with stairs wrapped to represent such a process that human explore themselves (Odyssey) and control instinctive behaviours. Climbing up to the roof of black frame is a symbol that people reach a level of super-ego (using morality to restrain themselves). Another Freud's theory is called "death drive". For example, people have the impulsion to fall down when they stand near the edge of a mountaion or skyscraper. People could stand on the roof to experience this feeling.

For Newton's lab, I provide a vast outdoor space for his experiments, such as Newton Cannon, motion of objects and the universal gravity.

I designed  a waterfall in landform since waterfall could emphasize the feeling of death drive (psychology) and also represent the gravity of mother nature(physics). The whole labs are combined together and are suspended on a valley, where waterfall comes from a cave. The cube is used as a meeting place for two clients. Freud can walk around the horizontal frame to arrive at cube while Newton could walk through stairs to this place. There could be a symbolic meaning as the connection between psychology and physics.

overview of the architecture

standing on the second floor of Newton's lab. Client can do experiments here

stairs, an important agent to connect different parts of building, a connection between physics and psychology

landform

more glowing experiment, red glowing makes the frame weird

view from the bottom of waterfall, notice the lights effect

cube meeting place with waterfall cave

top floor of frame structure, people can experience the death drive feeling. controling yourself from falling is also a provement of super-ego

an interesting screen cut, looks like a painting in the frame

undergroung balcony, watch the waterfall from here

an alternative starting point (if u don't want to climb the hill)

Experiment2 week3 36 textures from dark to light

Count from left to right, the textures numbers are 1,2 ,3 ,4, 5, 6
Texture 1 (Freud): inspiration comes from contradictious space, which gives people  illusion and misunderstanding about 3D space
Texture 2 and 6: simple designs of 6*6 patterns which based on grids
Texture 3 (Freud): the wave lines allow people to feel the movement of texture. This could be a reflection of psychological field
Texture 4 (Newton): a texture with rectangulars is used to represent Newton's attribution on maths
Texture 5 (Newton):  textures represent the  melting process of ice, since Newton  is a great man on physics. His contributions on motion and universal gravity are priceless.
